I use clear wrapping rolls from the dollar store to test draw possible quilting designs. They don't take up much room are 36 inches long a nice size when test drawing designs.

Sandra of mmmquilts thought of radiating lines or swirls. How about a combo of the two? I do think this quilt is finally starting to speak to me.

Testing out the quilting motifs is a great idea. I do like how you took Sandra's idea and did both - it makes the block have a very formal feeling to me. Good luck deciding and have fun quilting!
ReplyDeleteI waist more time trying to decide what to quilt, than I do actually quilting. I do love those lines with the swirls. Which ever idea you go with, this quilt will rock. It's a great design from the start.
ReplyDeleteThe testing is a great idea. I sometimes struggle with the quilting design and I don't even do anything fancy! I just love that grey fabric in the middle. I have some and it is one of my favorites and I wish I would have bought a lot more.
ReplyDeleteI did...and I tried VERY HARD not to...but I did have a little 'mad money' I brought down with me... Said mad money didn't translate to very much US$$ sniff. Anywho, the orange design just POPPED off the screen and I said oh ya! out loud before I read that hey that's me! I like the idea to combine both the radiating lines and swirls! Kathleen says "quilted area/non-quilted" repeat which I think this will do to help showcase each one (if that makes sense). Great idea on the dollar store clear wrap? What does it look like and where do you find it? I've been using my plexiglass but didn't bring it here so this sounds like a great solution! This is going to be a spectacular quilt Cindy!

ReplyDeletePlain square blocks or whole cloth quilts are simple to make and can really show off the beauty of fabric, colors and theme choices available to quilters.
