Block design part two has gone a lot better. You can read about part one here. This is one of the oops parts of part one.

adding strips |
Once the strips were added it was time to put the thinking cap back on. I wanted to add triangles and thought of have the trusty Tri Recs Ruler. I use this ruler set a fair amount. I centered the triangle in the middle of the strips and added them to all four sides.

One rescued center turned into a not to shabby a block. I do have plans for this 6 1/2'' block. That's for another post.

paper pieced |
I did take time to draw up a paper piece pattern for the original block idea I had. This is the 6 1/2'' version. Paper piecing was definitely the way to go with this one. I'm still working on the 12 1/2'' version.
Of the two blocks the paper pieced and the 'oops' my hubby prefers the oops.

Oh I'm with your hubby! I love the superimposed idea you've got going here. About Victoria Day or May 2-4 here in the East, out West (aka Alberta) we call it "May long"...funny how that goes. Wonder if our US friends have a pet name for their May holiday next weekend!
LOL Cindy, that's like asking me which I like better, chocolate cake or cherry pie. Both of those blocks are terrific! I love the co,or combination you've used too!
Happy May 2-4!
Lara is correct - these are both terrific. Pressed to choose however, I would go with the oops block. I love that tri recs ruler and always forget that I have it! I should get it out and play around with it.
To my knowledge, we don't have a pet name. Just Memorial Day!
I love the transformation of your oops block. It is gorgeous.
I like both of them and think together they'd make a spectacular quilt! Just sayin'! Great way to spend a Holiday, glad you enjoyed it!
Both look really striking. I'd like to see the oops block without the floral 'frame'.
Booth blocks are beautiful! Great way to save a lost block!!
I think your oops block turned out pretty darn good. I don't think you can call it oops anymore...it was a design that was just taking the long way of being born :)
I like both blocks.
Both blocks look great, but the oops is my favorite too.
Like most of the other commenters, I have to say both blocks are great and look fabulous together. Really enjoyed reading about your experience with these designs!
i love the way the block peeps through the square, a real optical illusion. Your round robin sounds great fun, and with great friends. Enjoy
I like the ooops block too!
I believe it is, or used to be, also referred to as Decoration Day, for the practice of decorating the graves of the war dead. Goes back to Civil War days.
they are both fun blocks. but i love the opps block also.

Love both blocks
Your transformation is awesome.
Beautiful blocks!
I like the way both blocks look, but the oops block is extra creative! I'd be interested to see how it looks if you put a bunch of them together.
Love to see the right in a quilt...My favorite ty for sharing... happyness04431@yahoo.com
They are both beautiful! I like the paper pieced better only because a whole set of them will give you more negative space for quilting. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
I really love the one in the box! But both are great!
I am leaving a totally separate comment. Nothing to do with this post.
thank you for your help. I am really having troubles with getting my email so you can see it.
I think I have done it. Would you please check and let me know if possible? Thanks in advance

I like the "oops" block. I also wanted to say that your applique projects were lovely. The alpha pin holder is a must-make. Thank you for sharing.
I love it when an oops block turns into something beautiful.
Beautiful block! I loved seeing the different ways it can be done :*)
Hi, visiting over here from Lara's fun mini hop. I like both of your blocks, but the Oops one sure has a lot of depth with that overlay look. Way to go in rescuing it!
Both blocks are terrific, but I like the oops just a wee bit more. Goes to prove that flying without a plan can often result in the most unexpected and lovely surprises!
I like both blocks, and they'd look great together! Wonderful that an "oops" block can become such a successful one with some thinking outside the box!
I actually LOVE your Oops! block!! agree with Sandra (above my comment)...they both look great together! :)
Lovely block. I really like your color scheme.
I might need to try the Tri Recs Ruler.
