2015 New Quilt Bloggers Hop Week 3

This is my intro for week three of the 2015 New Quilt blogger's blog hop. The hive I belong to is the Quantum Quilters, our fearless leader is Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl

A little about me...

I have lived in three different provinces in Canada. They are Ontario where I was born and am currently living, Quebec and Prince Edward Island. I went to a one room schoolhouse in Prince Edward Island. What can I say my folks moved around a lot.
I have been married for 38 years, we have three children and six grandchildren. Four granddaughters and two grandsons, they are a joy and the light of my life. The oldest is 9 and the youngest is 2. I run around barefoot in the house most of the time even in the winter. One would think after breaking my toe I would have learnt my lesson. But oh no not me. You will still find me barefoot.

I am a member of a small local quilt guild, we have less than 30 members. It was in its beginning stages when I joined. What a wonderful group of people and it is especially nice that we all enjoy the same thing. I have been able to take a few classes, which was great. I have always enjoyed learning new things.
I don't like UFO's and you would be hard pressed to find one in my house.
This time of year I can be found working in my flower beds. I am a member of the local Horticultural Society. So between grandchildren, quilting and my flowers I am one busy lady. And I love it!
Since I am tone deaf I usually don't have music playing when I'm sewing, although I have the radio or TV on for background noise. My hubby loves music and has a hard time understanding why I don't get it.

A few of my favourite quilts...

Spring is Sprung I love everything about this quilt. From the colours to the layout to the quilting. You can read more about it here.  Next up is 4 Patch frenzy and Justin's Path.

Spring is Sprung my favourite
4 Patch Frenzy

Justin's Path

A blogging Tip...

When writing a post be yourself, not everyone is going to agree with what you write and that's alright.

A quilting tip...

I use a dry erase board from the dollar store to write cutting instructions on. I erase each one as I cut them.

Favourite TV Show...

I am a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. But in the off season I watch CSI and NCIS shows.

Are you a sports fan?

Please also be sure to check out all the other bloggers in this weeks blog hop.

  2. I've been fascinated by PEI since I was very small and read Anne of Green Gables (and my county in Ireland is twinned with it)!

I love the three quilts you've chosen to share. A great range of design and style.

  3. I have to admit that in a former life I was a sports fan, but then I got married! My husband isn't a fan of most (any?) sports, but I enjoy the hiking, adventures, and travel we have substituted in our lives. I moved around quite a bit myself, so I can relate to that. Being settled in one area for a few years now, it is so nice to be part of a community and develop some longer term friendships.

Spring is Sprung is a lovely quilt, and I look forward to following along on your quilting adventures. :)

  6. Hi Cindy,
I loved reading more about you. As far as barefoot goes, my daughter only puts shoes on if she has to p. Even in winter, and we live in a cold section of Northern California, her feet are bare. They are usually freezing cold to the touch and she won't out anything on them!
Your quilts are absolutely gorgeous. You have a nice feel for color and design. I look forward to reading more of your blog.
    Take care!

  8. I do love your idea about the dry erase board. It would definitely make my life easier, so I think I'll pop out today and buy one. It depends on what the pattern is as to how fiddly I get with instructions. If it's repeating blocks, I tend to just keep the pattern open in front of me, but occasionally I will photocopy a pattern just for the purposes of being able to cross things off as I get to them.

I watch the occasional Aussie Rules game, but they're generally not played here until we get to finals season. I'm not a huge sports fan, but if somewhere local is playing the grand final, I will go out for that.

  9. Writing cutting instructions on a dry erase board is genius. I'm constantly marking on my pattern or magazine trying to keep up with what I've done. I love all of the colors in the 4 Patch Frenzy quilt. It was nice to meet you and I look forward to following your posts in the future.

  10. Hi Cindy, I love the border on your 4 Patch Frenzy. What type of applique is that? It really adds a whole other dimension to the feel of the quilt. I'm the opposite of you, by the way, shoe-wise. Unless I'm in bed you rarely will find me with bare feet. I hate the feeling of stepping on things with bare feet and with five kids there always seems to be toys, crumbs, etc. on the floors. And I feel like having bare feet slows me down, productivity wise. So even though in the summer, its always a good pair of flips flops (not the cheap thin kind), I always have shoes on.

  11. I love sports, mainly rugby and cricket. I'm also a HUGE NCIS fan. IF not in the sewing room I'm also to be found in the garden, or visiting gardens. Nice to meet you

  12. Hi: I'm visiting from the blog hop. I'm not a sports fan at all. When my kid's played soccer I got into it. Now my daughter gets me to watch a lot of climbing and bouldering competitions on the internet when we are together. I love your spring quilt. I can see why it's your favourite. I also like Justin's path and I love your quilting tip. I'm a fellow Canadian...lived in southern Ontario my whole life. Good to meet you.

  16. Prince Edward Island, I think straight away of Anne of Green Gables, sounds gorgeous place to live. I love Justin's Path, it is a great quilt, love the strong colour contrast. Just popped over from the blog hop, I did last week, and I posted a link to you at the end of my current post

  19. Nice to meet you Cindy. Your quilts are all lovely. My husband and I were once keen "footy" fans (Rugby League, Australia) but not so much any more. Unless you count watching our two sons, aged 7 and 6, play soccer!

  21. In a past life I was an avid A's baseball fan. Not so much anymore, though I do occasionally enjoy a San Francisco Giants or San Jose Giants (minor league) game. Life is too full of other stuff. I love the white board tip. I love your 4 Patch Frenzy quilt. The colors all flow together so nicely.

  22. Okay, not sure how I missed this post...enjoyed learning a bit more about you! Sad to say we are enemies on one point though...Blue Jays: ppffftt! Go Tigers! I love being barefoot, but I have issues with cold feet if it's below 72 or 22C yay for Florida in Canadian winters. Oh. My. Gosh. how I love those 3 quilts. That Justin's Path is my favourite, but Four-Patch Frenzy tied with Spring has Sprung a very close second. I love patchwork paired with appliquƩ. Beautiful quilts. I'm with your husband on the music thing. ;-)

  24. Wow, your quilts are gorgeous! I enjoy gardening too. I would love to see pictures of your garden. Oh, how I wish I could finish up my UFOs. I admire your ability to finish your projects. For a time, I did not piece another quilt and focused on completing projects. However, they have built up again.

  25. Hi Cindy! It is so nice to get to know you a bit better! Your quilts are beautiful, especially Spring is Sprung. The use of negative space really sets this design apart and the color choices are lovely.
