Mod Bear Paws Flimsy

Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts recently asked for testers for her new Mod Bear Paws pattern. I made the baby size as I need either a pink or blue baby quilt in March. After some serious complications and loss a year ago from an ectopic pregnancy, my DIL is expecting. Fingers and toes crossed and lots of prayers that both mother and baby will be fine.

Bear paws require a fair amount of HST's good thing I'm not afraid of making them, as I got lots of practice making all those 1 1/2'' HST's.

I was going to write this post after I had quilted it, but I'm not sure that's going to happen real soon. Another project has been taking all my time.

Lorna's patterns are easy to follow with lots of great pictures. I'm not sure if you noticed but even with great instructions I still made a mistake I had one of the forehead pieces put in wrong. More practice with the seam ripper, not that I need any practice, and now my bear has his forehead all fixed as you can see in the next photo.

Lorna is having a QAL for Mod Bear Paws in September. If you got the pattern now you could get a head start on your very own bear.

My flowers are not doing the best this year with all the hot and extremely dry weather we have been experiencing.

floribunda rose

Usually this rose bush is covered with blooms, not so this year. This is a floribunda rose, I prefer hybrid teas. They are all suffering even though I keep them watered.

phlox
Even the phlox isn't as showy. Some rain sure would be welcome.

How are your gardens doing this year?

  3. So fun to see this quilt in a different color! I wouldn't even have noticed the poor bear's head if you didn't point it out...it does look better fixed though. :) Me and my seam ripper are all sorts of friends; seems like I use it on every project! Best wishes for your DIL - I hope all goes well for her and baby.

  5. Congrats, Cindy! Will be keeping all fingers and toes crossed that everyone will be just fine. The bear makes a perfect baby quilt. I love it all in blue. If I could figure out a way to send you guys some of our rain, I would gladly do it. It's like we've had so much, everything is waterlogged and not doing well.

  7. I love it! Perhaps he's an arctic bear; he looks to be very cool in those shades of blue!

  8. I'm loving seeing these bears in different colors. I thought Mari's looked like he was in a field of flowers, and now yours looks like he (or she) is in the frosty north. What fun! And whether or not this one goes to your grandbaby (but girls like blue, too) I do hope all goes well for all of you. I feel for you about the flowers. I was thinking tonight as I was seemingly futilely watering mine that they just aren't the same this year. Everything's out of balance, with drought loving plants that are supposed to be just supportive taking over plants that are supposed to be more showy.
