Turning off CAPTCHA!

I dislike the CAPTCHA word verification that most of the blogs I've posted on lately are using. It is downright annoying!! I didn't even realize it was turned on for comments on my blog. Thanks to Kathy from Kwilty Pleasures it is now turned off. You can find out how to turn it off by following her simple instructions. Just follow this link to get to her blog and say goodbye to Captcha.

GROW YOUR BLOG

Hi and welcome to my blog. My name is Cindy, I live in Southwestern, Ontario Canada. I'm a new blogger in the world of quilting. I have been quilting about 15 years. It has really only been the last few years that I have spent more time on quilting and I am loving it. I started my blog to showcase my addiction yes I admit it I am addicted.

Thanks Vicki for doing this. I know it is a lot of work. I'm glad I could help out in a small way by being one of your volunteers.
I like doing machine applique and am thinking of making applique patterns. I love my digital programs and also have a blog for digital scrapbooking, if your interested you can see it here.

I love quilting and working with fabric. I don't always follow patterns, I sometimes use them as guidelines and adapt them to make them my own. Sometimes my bright ideas work out and other times... well we won't mention those right now.

If you want to see the list of blogs that are participating just go to Vicki's blog here.

Please make sure you are a no reply blogger. Simply go to your blogger profile page and add your email address. It's as easy as that.

January mini Flurry BOM

I just love this mini by Gudrun Erla, it is the January BOM over at Aurifil. You can get all the details here
I was going to go with the red and white, as Gudrun used, but this lovely mauve wanted out of the closet. I just couldn't say no and I do I like it paired with this white on cream.
I cut everything out and had it all lined up ready to go.

The instructions were well written and in no time at all I had the center made. I'm really liking this colour combo. I should have gotten rid of those couple threads before I took the photo. Too late now. The lighting gave this a pink tint.

A little more sewing time  and I had these units together. Chain piecing and pressing.  I might need to clean my ironing board cover soon.

It took me almost 3 hours from start to finish. Not bad at all. I'm not quilting or binding it yet as I want to see what the other blocks look like to decide if I want to make a quilt out of them or just maybe a few minis.

I am more than happy with the final results.

Ugly Fabric Challenge

We had an ugly fabric challenge in our guild. We each brought  a one yard piece of ugly fabric. The way it worked was the first piece, is cut in half you keep half and pass the other half to the person next to you. Then cut the new piece in half again keeping half and passing the other half on  continue until the smallest piece is about 2 and 1/2 inches. We ended up with 8 pieces from 1/2 yard to a 2 1/2 inch square. We could add two other fabrics of our own.
It was fun and interesting to see what everyone made. The challenge results were varied. There was a vest, table runners, wall hangings, table topper and doll quilts.
I made a doll quilt. The inspiration of the butterfly was from Pinterest. I practiced some free motion feathers.

Hope

I was reading Pat Sloan's post on her 'word of the year', you can read all about it here
The more I thought about it the more I wanted my own word. I tossed words about, I looked up definitions. A few of the words I went through are thrive, success, joy. I finally decided on 'Hope'. Wikipedia defines it as an 'optimistic attitude'.
I can do this. Since I've never done this before it might not be easy and I may forget it at times. But even if I do forget hope, I hope to bring it back in my life and everything I do.
I am thinking of designing a small wall hanging with my word hope in it, as a gentle reminder.

I like this quote by Emily Dickinson.

“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.”
― Emily Dickinson

-I hope that my family is happy and healthy.
- As a cancer survivor I hope I am healthy.
-I hope to become a better blogger, it is not something I'm used to doing.
-I hope to feel accomplished without feeling stressed.

In 2015 I shall endeavor to remember to hope.

I hope you are having a great day.
