Medallion Quilt Block 11

Next block up is Cross Points. It is a variation of a Sisters Choice block.

Cross Points

This is a 12 1/2'' unfinished or 12'' finished block.

 All seams allowances are 1/4''

Cutting:

Dark fabric:          A  2- 2 1/2'' x 3''
                             B   1- 2 1/2'' x 7 1/2''
Medium fabrics:  C   4-  3'' x  3''
                             D  8-  3'' x 3''
Background Fabric: E 4- 3'' x 7 1/2'' 
                                 F 4- 3'' x 3''

Step 1:

1. Using piece 1 A and 2 C's. With right sides together sew the C squares to an A square. Press seams to the dark fabric. See diagram 1a.
2. Make 2. 
3. Using the units you just made sew them to the long side of B. Press. See diagram 1b.
4. This makes a  7 1/2'' square for the center.

Step 2: 

1. Draw a line diagonally on all  D's. See diagram 2a.
2. Using  background fabric piece E and 2  D squares.
3. Place D on  E matching corners and with right sides together sew on the drawn line. 
4. Trim a 1/4'' from the sewn line, on the outside corner. See diagram 2b. Repeat on the other corner. 
4. Press seams to dark side. 
5. Make four.

Step 3

1. Sew a background fabric F square to both ends of two of the units from step 2. See diagram 3.
2. Press seams towards F.

Step 4

1. Join rows together as per diagram 4.
2. Press in directions of arrows.

  3. Nice tutorial!! All in all, the most basic of quilt blocks, a plain square, can be transformed into a truly unique and creative expression. Plain isn't necessarily so plain.
