Text It! Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Text It! blog hop, sharing the gorgeous and fun projects from Sherri Noel's (Rebecca Mae Designs) new book, Text It!
Sherri's book has 10 Quilt and Pillow patterns as well as 7 full sized alphabets so you can personalize any project or make something of your own inspired by the book.

I was looking for a quick project as I have a lot going on, as I browsed through her book I found the perfect project. It goes well with my project from 'Dusting off a Quilt Book' .

I used some of the same scraps as my dusted off pillow.

The pillow top came together quickly. I prefer not to have the thread steal the show when appliqueing so I machine appliqued the letters using Superior's Monopoly and Bottom Line thread. All in all I am very happy with how my pillow turned out. I found the instructions easy to follow and Sherri offers some great tips in the book.

I quilted some simple swirls and echoed around the lettering.

I have a giveaway you can enter, with two prizes. One is a copy of Text It!, which is only available to a winner who lives in Canada. I will be sending it out to the winner. The other prize, 2 large spools of Aurifil thread, will be shipped anywhere in the world. To enter, leave me a comment telling me do you bind your pillows? Also please include whether you are Canadian. I will draw the winner on March 16th.

If you would like a copy signed by Sherri she has some listed in her shop HERE.

  3. Great pillow. I don't make cushions often, but the last one I did I actually made with binding. I found it very easy, fun and decorative. I'm visiting you from Norway.

  12. Super cute pillow. I tend to not bind my pillows, but I will sometimes add cording.

  13. I live in the US. I have sometimes put a cording around my pillows but am finishing up one now and am going to bind it like a quilt. I haven't tried that idea before but have seen it done a couple times and like the way it looks, plus seems easier than the cording!

  18. I like to make my pillow (known as a cushion here in New Zealand) front and back about an inch larger than the form, then sew another line to make a sort of flap, soft edge. Does that make sense?

  19. I have never bound a pillow before, but yours is so cute it makes me want to try it next time.

  22. I haven’t made a pillow yet, but I have made two pincushions recently and I bound both of them. It’s not that different from binding a quilt really.
Love the colours you used for your pillow, and especially love the fabric you used for “home”.
    I’m visiting you from England.

  24. I don't often make pillows, but I've made a "faux" binding and liked that look and process. Your project looks great. And I really agree with your idea about letting the stitching take a back seat to the appliqué; that worked to great effect in this case.
    I'm an Oregonian, btw.

  36. I've read this twice on my phone now! WAs SURE I'd commented, but apparently it was in my dreams...I can't on my phone (still have the logged out issue there) so I will write what I thought I already wrote, LOL. I just love what you did, and yes!! It will be such a great partner to your other house cushion from the other hop, like you'd planned it all out, right? I so do hope I can win, as I'd love this pattern, house blocks are a VERY close second to my favourite star blocks. As to the question, I always bind my pillows, gives them such a more clean, polished look. Beautiful work and quilting as always, Cindy. :-)

  42. Very pretty pillow. It makes me want to stretch my applique skills a little. I have only ever done large chunky shapes. Those delicate letters look intimidating. I know I missed the giveaway, but I'll weigh in on the pillow finishing anyway: I recently started binding my pillows and decided I like that opportunity for one last little designs flourish.
