Charity Quilt Top

Another off my to do list. I needed to get this top done so the long armer has time to get it quilted before my guild's quilt show in June. The quilt show committee would like to show the charity quilts before we send them on to their homes.
I had a bag of assorted purples, pinks and blended stuff ( technical term). They varied in size from 1  1/2 inches wide to 2 1/2 inch wide strips some only 6 inches long. Squares that were 2 1/2 up to 5 inches. Bigger pieces of 11 x 10 inch up to quarter yd there was only a couple of those. I didn't have a clue how to put this assortment into something nice.

So I just decided to make a variety of blocks and then I was going to pull together a layout. Well that was a terrible idea, nothing went together right and looked horrible. You can see some of those blocks here
I needed a new plan. After mulling it over for awhile I decided to make 12 1/2 inch blocks. I used the strips to make these, there are 36 2 1/2 inch squares in this block.

I framed the little 9 patches to make them into a 12 inch finished size.

The end result. I think it turned out ok, maybe more solids or a nice neutral would have helped. I used the darker 2 1/2 inch strips to sash each block.

  1. I think it's a beautiful finish and is impressive as a charity quilt. I always wonder if people realize the time and effort that goes into one. Can I give you an Atta Girl? You did a good thing, and a nice job.
