A Fun WIP

I never would have thought that designing a BOM for my guild was going to be fun. Once I knew the direction I was heading in designing this quilt, it took on a life of it's own. It has been frustrating at times when my quilty math was off, but so much fun seeing it develop into something that someone else might like to make. At least I hope they like it.

Instructions

A few blocks done in pink scraps. A little problem with the pink, I already have two granddaughters that want it when it's done. Might have to do something for each of them. The 5 year old told me I could borrow it for my next quilt show. She's always thinking.

Pink blocks

Because I was feeling inspired and having so much fun with this, I raided my stash. I had picked up a piece of MODA Gypsy Rose by Fig Tree a couple years ago and added a green and a few fat quarters of rooster reds to it. This is the result.

12 blocks and the center started.

I need to decide on sashing, whether to go with the background fabric or maybe the reds.

Are you having fun this summer in the sewing room or the great outdoors? I sure am enjoying both.

  1. I'm trying to do both, although the weather has not been cooperating as it normally should be! Think I'm growing webs between my toes...so I'm getting in quite a bit of sewing time too. I love Fig Tree fabrics. :-) I like the reds for a bit of punch/pizazz, although I can see floating those on the same background fabric would be kind of cool too...so I'm no help! Love seeing how your 5-year-old thinks!!

  2. You have a quick thinking 5 year old granddaughter! That really cracked me up. It looks like you are having some pattern writing and fabric fun, and it is awesome you are enjoying the wonderful summer weather, too. My husband and I go for nightly walks, so we're doing our best to take it in (and enjoy each sunset!), too.

  3. So far we seem to have busy this summer , visiting one son and hus graduation and waiting for the other son to come home . In between I have pieced together two quilt tops from a bee last year . Respect to your granddaughter

  4. Congratulations on a beautiful design and nicely written pattern. Your guild is lucky because I know how much work goes into those patterns. Obviously your grand daughters think it is a wonderful project as well. How lucky you are to have them close enough to come and see what you are working on.

I love the Gypsy Rose fabrics and congrats on getting so much accomplished on it as well.

  6. Well done and how exciting! These blocks look gorgeous! Personally I think pattern making is hard work - but oh so enjoyable, I usually lose myself in the process, it looks like you do too :)

I love comments, however if you don't get a reply back from me it is because you may be a no-reply blogger. Hope you have a great day!
